Photograph, The Long Strike

Description

Black and white postcard of federal troops camped out near Louisville, Colorado. The Hecla Coal Mine can be seen in the background. The photo shows a scene of tents, soldiers, and horses. This was a postcard sent to Bill Waneka in 1914 (the year when federal troops were sent to Louisville to keep the peace during the coal mine strike of 1910-1914). The postcard was written by Harry Pospisil. (Historic records indicate that he was born in circa 1892 and lived in Louisville.)
