Stereograph, No.2325 Silver Plume

Description

Stereograph of Silver Plume in Clear Creek County, Colorado, taken circa 1882-1883 by George E. Mellen. Silver Plume was originally a silver mining town and home to the 7:30 Mine, such named because the managers allowed work to start an hour later at 7:30am instead of the normal 6:30am. The image shows an aerial shot of the town. Several dwellings are visible on either side of a stream that extends the length of the image in the center. Many of the homes are constructed with gable roofs and fenced yards. The "C.C.R.R." in the title refers to the Colorado Central Railroad, which ran to Silver Plume. Inscription: Printed on mount: "Geo. E. Mellen, Landscape Photographer." "Gunnison and Salida, Colorado." Handwritten on mount: "No. 2325 Silver Plume. C.C.R.R."
