Painted Pottery Vessels - Majiayao

Description

The designs on these pots may have symbolic significance or they may be decorative, or both; there is nothing in a gravesite to tell us which. Likewise, the loops on some of these pots seem too delicate to be used as handles, suggesting that they were made for a burial. We don't know precisely where these pots were excavated, but they are similar to pots found with remains of grains and other food, suggesting they may have been originally used for food storage.
