Tapestry

Description

This copy of a 1788 imperial decree by Emperor Qianlong captures both the Emperor's artistry and his concern for his people. Qianlong copied a famous Song Dynasty painting, Chicks Waiting to be Fed, and added a poem describing his concern for people suffering famine and homelessness from recent floods in China. Copies of the Emperor's work were sent to local officials to convey the Emperor's concern for his subjects and encourage aid to be sent.
