Ration Ticket, Ute

Description

This ration ticket is made of a beige piece of heavy rectangular shaped paper, with the top two corners cut off. There is black printing in various fonts on one side of the ticket. There is a brass eyelet at the center top. This item was found in Chief Ouray's desk (H.5830.1) in the second drawer.

Guy O. Hammond This item is from Chief Ouray’s desk (H.5830.1); see Accession File for exact location in the desk. The desk and all of its contents were originally purchased by Guy O. Hammond’s mother at the auction of Ouray’s possessions following his death in 1880. The desk and its contents were in possession of the Hammond family for 70 years, until History Colorado bought them from Guy. O. Hammond of Delta, Colorado. History Colorado was able make the purchase because the El Pomar Foundation of Colorado Springs, whose president at the time was Mrs. Spencer Penrose, donated the necessary money.
