Chain coral fossil
Description
Chain coral fossils are commonly found in Michigan rock formations and date back to 443-419 million years ago. During this time, Michigan was covered in a shallow tropical sea in which coral such as this was abundant. Each round opening in the specimen would have been occupied by an individual living polyp.
