Fern - Alethopteris serli

Description

Ferns are common plants today, but they are related to plants that developed in the Devonian Period, over 360 million years ago. In order for ferns to live, they need a lot of moisture in the air and in the soil. Most plants grow from a seed, but ferns grow from spores, which are formed in little brown dots (sporangia) you sometimes see on the underside of a fern leaf. The large fern fronds fanned out at the top of a trunk, like palm fronds.
