Provenance:

Made by the Guide Lamp Division of General Motors during WWII. This single shot .45 ACP was made by sheet steel stamping and welding. A compartment in the butt held 6 cartridges and pictographic instructions on use. These guns were dropped by the thousands to resistance fighters in France, Italy, and Yugoslavia. They were close range weapons only having crude sights and a smoothbore barrel. The idea was that a resistance fighter could get close to an enemy soldier, shoot him and then take his weapon.
