In the last section, we explored many different places. They can be called a habitat. But, what is a habitat exactly? Let's find out!

What is a Habitat?

In this activity, draw lines to connect pictures of forest plants and animals that need each other. For example, you might connect a tree to a squirrel that eats its nuts or the tree where it seeks shelter. This will help us understand how everything in nature is connected and relies on each other to survive!

We'll learn about what makes these places special and how animals and plants survive there. These places are called habitats!

Where do plants and animals live? 

Now let's think about what all animals need to survive. Every animal, no matter where it lives, needs certain things to live and grow. What do you think these things are? How do animals find food, water, and shelter in their habitats? What helps them stay safe? What does this animal need to eat and drink? Where does it find shelter? How does it stay safe from predators? Choose one or more animals and draw what you think your animal's habitat looks like.

 is a place where animals and plants live. Just like we have homes, animals and plants have homes too, called 

A habitat is cozy place where plants and animals live together. It's a special place where they can find everything they need to survive. 

Let's explore some of those different habitats we brainstormed about earlier more closely! 

A temperate forest is a place with many tall trees that lose their leaves in the fall and grow new ones in the spring. It has four seasons: winter, spring, summer, and fall. There are many plants and animals that live here, such as squirrels, deer, and birds. The trees provide food and shelter for these animals.

The Arctic is a very cold place with lots of ice and snow. It is cold all year round, and the ground is always frozen. Animals like polar bears, seals, and Arctic foxes live here. These animals have thick fur or blubber to keep them warm.

A desert is a very dry place that gets very little rain. It can be very hot during the day and cool at night. There are special plants like cacti that can store water, and animals like camels and lizards that are adapted to live with little water.

Grasslands are large open areas covered mostly with grasses and few trees. They have hot summers and cold winters. Many animals like lions, zebras, and elephants live here. The grasses provide food for the herbivores, and these animals, in turn, provide food for the predators.
