The possibility of the imposition of martial law existed was always close at hand from the time of the overthrow of the Kingdom of Hawaii.

The Path to Martial Law in Hawaii

Martial Law is the rule by a military authority in times of emergency and the temporary suspension of civil authority. For societies that place a high premium on the rule of law and the rights of individuals, martial law is seen as an undesirable necessity.
