Your Art-making Activity: Abstract circle painting

Based on the HKMoA collection, this series, ‘In Touch with Hong Kong Artists’, provides education materials and activity sets designed with the aim to raise the interest in artists and art and culture in Hong Kong. In this resource kit, Ho Chi-fun will be introduced.

Framed canvas, acrylic paint, paint brush, paint knives, adhesive tape, scissors, drawing paper, toothbrush, sponge, color mixing dish 

Pick colors that can represent your feelings and apply the colors with heavy brush strokes, using the techniques of color gradation to fill the framed canvases. 

Mix and paint complementary or analogous colors on the canvases and wait for them to be dried.

Separate into groups and look for circular objects in various sizes in the room and create paper stencils in groups. 

Place various circular objects on drawing paper and draw the contours. Then, cut the stencils out according to the contours.

Place the paper stencils on the canvases and apply color with spray paint.

Use composition methods such as superimposition, symmetry and contrast in size to paint circles.
