Artist of the People: American Symbols in Art

This Resource Kit explores American symbols on an artifact in Macculloch Hall Historical Museum's collection. A large silver canteen was a gift to Thomas Nast, the political cartoonist and artist, for his support of soldiers during the Civil War

Many American symbols are included on this object including bald eagles, laurel leaves, and Columbia. Students are invited to investigate the canteen closer and learn about the symbols used.
